Over the last 20 years, the Chevrolet brand has been synonymous with the pickup truck segment due to its definitive Silverado Light Duty and Heavy Duty truck models. Some may not know that the Silverado was originally introduced into the Chevrolet lineup as a trim level on the 70’s C/K trucks, and was later given its own model in 1999 due to its success. Since then, Chevrolet has carved out a large chunk of the national truck market due to the Silverado’s long-standing reputation for dependability, capability, and performance. Five years after the introduction of the Silverado (2004), the Colorado was introduced as a mid-size option to round out Chevrolet’s truck lineup. The Colorado offers Silverado-like performance but on a compact scale. With the pickup segment evolving at an ever-increasing rate, we have seen everything from overland-ready to luxury-based models introduced into lineups across manufacturers. Below, you will see how Chevrolet is differentiating itself within the respective truck markets with their recently improved and planned pickup models.
2023 Colorado Updates
The coming year will be an exciting time for Colorado fans and owners as Chevrolet has completely redesigned the mid-size pickup, inside and out. “The all-new Colorado is enhanced in every way. With its rugged and sporty styling, enhanced capability, new technology, and customization options, it’s designed to be more discerning to customers and still offers them a great value” said Scott Bell, Global Vice President of Chevrolet. The entire Colorado lineup is built around a single wheelbase (with distinctive chassis stances) and cab configuration to tie each model back to a common theme: elevated design, enhanced performance, and useful technology.

2023 Silverado LD Updates
The 2022 model year light-duty Silverado received a slew of updates in the form of interior and exterior appearance, performance improvements, and technological advancements. The most noticeable changes include the redesigned front grille and lighting configuration, plus an all-new interior design. The front row of the cabin features a beautiful 13.4-inch-diagonal infotainment touchscreen and 12.3 inch-diagonal-configurable digital instrument cluster (standard on the LT trim level and above). Additionally, overall material quality and appearance have improved tremendously throughout the cabin with leather appointments, wood trim, and refined stitching. For 2023, updates are relatively minor as the 4th Generation Silverado 1500 is only into the second year of its refresh. A couple of exterior paint colors will no longer be optionable but will be replaced with a pair of new color shades including Harvest Bronze Metallic and Sterling Gray Metallic. The Duramax 3.0L Inline-Six Turbo-Diesel receives a slight bump in performance with 28 additional horsepower and 35 lb.-ft. of torque. Building on the Silverado ZR2, the ultra-aggressive off-road trim introduced in 2022, Chevrolet has developed the ZR2 Bison in conjunction with American Expedition vehicles to create an even more extreme off-road experience.

2023/2024 Silverado HD Updates
Similar to the light-duty Silverado, the heavy-duty Silverado does not receive any significant changes to the core 2023 model year lineup. Due to this fact, the upcoming changes to the 2024 model below will be discussed. The 2024 model year Silverado HD is slated to have a complete overhaul in the appearance and technology department, with tweaks in performance to perfect Chevrolet’s heavy-duty pickup formula. Much of the technological improvements that were made to the 2022 and 2023 Silverado 1500, will now be available on the 2024 Silverado 2500HD and 3500HD, such as the 13.4-inch-diagonal touchscreen infotainment system and 12.3-inch-diagonal digital instrument cluster with Google Built-in. Additionally, the new model will sport a refreshed front end and an all-new interior design. Tweaks to the Duramax 6.6L Turbo-Diesel V8 have been made to further improve horsepower and torque output to increase towing capacity to up to 36,000 lbs. and 7,290 max payload (DRW configuration).
