The fully electric Silverado pickup was initially revealed at the beginning of 2022 as a fully re-imagined, developed from the ground-up, all-electric truck. The Chevy Silverado EV will be powered by GM’s Ultimum battery platform (which currently powers the GMC Hummer EV) and Ultifi over-the-air software. These platforms will work in tandem to deliver an experience that is both exhilarating and user-friendly, all while keeping the promise of zero emissions. The Chevy Blazer EV will serve as Chevrolet’s sporty mid-size SUV within the electric segment. The initial reviews have harped on the athletic design, 320-mile estimated range, 4-second 0-60 time and massive 17.7-inch panoramic interior information screen. A unique point of the Blazer EV is that it will be offered in 3 separate powertrains and battery sizes. The first and most affordable option is the single FWD motor, followed by a choice of two RWD motors (varying in power) and the final option being a dual-motor AWD system, delivering maximum performance and range. The Chevy Equinox EV is positioned to be a more cost-conscious compact SUV option while maintaining the EV style cues and technology of its more expensive sibling models. The Equinox will have an attractive starting price of around $30,000, making it the most affordable compact SUV in the segment. Two powertrains will be available on the Equinox EV, including a FWD system that starts at an estimated range of 250 miles and an AWD system with up to 300 miles of range. The Chevrolet Bolt has been finely tuned over the last 7 years to bring the EV market an enticing subcompact SUV for 2023 and 2024. Prices have been slashed by nearly $6,000 for the respective models (Bolt EV and EUV) year over year, making the Bolt EV one of the most affordable electric vehicles on the market (starting at $26,595). Whats more, this all comes after the facelift the model recieved in 2022. The Bolt EV and EUV are differentiated by their size, with the EUV offering slightly more passenger volume due to its extra 6.3 inches of length. Both models come standard with a 200 horsepower motor, one-pedal driving capabiltiy, 10.2-inch-diagonal touchscreen, DC Fast Charging (up to 100 miles of range in 30 minutes of charging) and wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. EPA-estimated range of the EV model is 259 miles, with the EUV having slightly less at 247 miles. Three primary charging options are available to Chevrolet EV owners. In-home options include level 1 and 2 charging, with level 1 being the most readily available and level 2 being an option given the infrastructure is in place or installed. A 120-volt outlet is all that is needed for level 1 charging whereas a 240-volt outlet (what a dryer would use) is needed for level 2. On average, level 2 allows for 5-10x faster charge times than level 1, making it an attractive option for those who drive longer distances on a daily basis. Certified Chevrolet EV dealers will be equipped with level 2 or level 3 (DC Fast Charging) chargers in order to provide optimal charge times. DC Fast Chargers allow for the fastest charge times providing up to 100 miles of range in 10-30 minutes. Additionally, over 110,000 charge points are available across the U.S. and Canada so you can have peace of mind knowing you are near a station when traversing extended distances. The Ultium platform is General Motors’ battery technology that will serve as the universal platform for all-electric vehicles within the GM brand (Chevrolet, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac). The platform itself is incredibly versatile due to its ability to arrange batteries in a number of different configurations, allowing them to integrate with the vehicle’s chassis and power 3 different-sized motors. Ultium batteries also hold a larger charge, and hence more range, than a majority of mass-produced EV brands. To further lend to its range capability, the platform captures the heat produced by the batteries in order to improve charge speeds and range.
GM has also paired its Ultium platform with a new software known as Ultifi, which will improve the components of the vehicle as it ages. Similar to how a phone receives an update, Ultifi will be utilized to send over-the-air updates to the vehicle. It will make adjustments to everything from appearance to performance. Giving owners to option to tweak aspects of the vehicle like the predesigned themes displayed in the interior of the vehicle, power output, driver assistance features, cloud connectivity, and much more.
Currently, ordering is limited to Blazer EV and Bolt EV/EUV models but we expect Silverado EV and Equinox EV ordering to open in Q3/Q4 of 2023.
